The Hill Times spoke to Blaneys’ Partner Jack Siegel about the motion put forward for the Procedure and House Affairs Committee (PROC) to study changes to the Canada Elections Act included in the government’s budget bill C-30 to address the issues of false information during elections.
Jack Siegel, said the review is overkill, particularly given how narrow the scope of the ruling against the election misinformation law was.
“All they really have to do is put [‘knowingly’] back,” he said. However, he noted that a broader look at how misinformation is circulated or at issues of overseas interference could be warranted even if a look at the constitutional challenge isn’t.
