Blaneys acknowledges with great sadness the passing of our former partner, The Honourable R. Roy McMurtry.
Roy was the brother of our firm’s co-founder, Bill McMurtry, and following his service as Canada’s High Commissioner in the United Kingdom, he practiced law as a partner of our firm until he was appointed to the Bench in 1991.
Shawn Wolfson, Managing Partner, Blaney McMurtry says, “Roy was a remarkable person. His varied and extensive career in law and politics, along with his dedication to public service, is an inspiration to all of us. His commitment to social justice was unwavering. Roy was an avid amateur artist and one of his paintings, of Brigus South in Newfoundland, hangs in our offices today, and will always remind us of him.”
The Partners and staff of Blaney McMurtry LLP, many of whom worked with and knew Roy McMurtry, considered him both a friend and a colleague. We remember him fondly.
